Garden Pod Installation

How is the Garden Pod assembled

Relax... this part is taken care of by us. Not only do we deliver across the UK, we also assemble the pods for you on site. Due to their construction, there is no need for an expensive crane, or the requirement of a wide open space, as these buildings often get fitted in terraced house gardens with no side access

Garden Pod Construction

The garden pods are sectional buildings, meaning that they are manufactured in our midlands factory in set sized panels. Each Pod is hand built to order using our uniquely designed SIP's panels that include insulation, vapour barrier and cavity fitted wiring. Pre-fabrication substantially benefits outweigh the negatives for small garden buildings especially if you are looking to have a cost effective product. The speed and accuracy of manufacturing in house can't be matched on site where conditions and space are unpredictable, and construction time can drag on. Quality control is also much better in house especially as the buildings all get stood up and inspected, prior to loading and delivery.

Garden Pod Assembly

Time on site is the most expensive part of the build process, as the consistent trail of collecting materials from either the vehicle or the DIY depot, adds time, money and effort. Compare that to 4-5 hours on site from start to finish, and you can see how the pre-fabrication method wins again. We appreciate that the on-site build can appear different to a pre-fab panel construction, however with clever designs & vertical cladding, a panel constructed building can acctually appear the same visually.

So with our unique design and bespoke construction, not only can you have a garden pod in a terraced flat, you get to have it at a trade price too.

What Else Do I Need To Know?

In addition to the garden Pod price, you will need to factor in a base, and electrician and any decoration.

The cheapest way to do a base is a DIY paving slab base - however it must be flat smooth and level. For those not too confident, then a local builer can provide a price for a paving or concrete slab (as per the plan we provide). Alternatively we can provide a ground screw base (providing the site is grass or loose gravel - up to a fall of 150mm).

The electrician is required to do the second fix electrics and provide the power supply (armoured cable from the house to the Pod). The Pod is pre-wired with the cables inside the cavity ready, which gives a much better look than surface mounted wires and trunking. The electrician should take approximately 1-3 hours to complete the internal connections.

We don't offer any internal decoration, however laminate floor, skirting and trims are included within the price. We have looked at pre-painted lining boards and pre painted skirting, however the cost of the different boards and trims far outweighs the cost of a painter for a day and some top quality paint. There is of course the option of fitting out internally with melamine boards and plastic trims, however the cost of the on-site build time increases to a second day, and again outweighs the cost of a decorator and paint.

Heating a Garden Pod

The Garden Pod is cheap to run as it is fully insulated and includes double glazing. The insulation is Celotex PIR, which is foil backed on both sides - 70mm in the floor and 50mm to walls & ceiling. The rigid board also adds excellent acoustic properties, so that it's quiet inside the pod, especially required for garden offices. This means that you only need a small heater to keep the Pod cosy in the winter - something like an electric wall mounted panel heater will suffice for a  5m x 3m room. This comes in at around £100 from the usual high street or online stores. Triple glazing is available and might be a good option for continual year round use, as it further reduces noise and heat loss, as well as blocking excess solar heat gain.
